In a quiet village in the heart of the South Downs National park with superb views over the Downs, Stane House provides high quality guest accommodation in a beautiful part of West Sussex. The house has an acre of formal garden with abundant planting in a classic English country garden style.

“The house has been lovingly restored to its original glory yet offers the facilities demanded by modern guests. Decor and flooring are of a particularly good standard throughout. Period and antique furniture blend with modern fittings. Beds are comfortable and supportive, while bathrooms offer all the elements required and are fitted with modern sanitary ware etc.” (Quality in Tourism)

We are in the tiny village of Bignor, best known for the Roman Villa with its renowned mosaics. Your stay with us will be very comfortable in well-appointed accommodation.

“Hospitality is genuine and warm, guests being offered refreshment on arrival is particularly welcome. Service is timely, anticipating guest requirements.” (Quality in Tourism)

If you are a walker or cyclist, we can drive you to one of the local pubs, many of which serve food. If you are walking The South Downs Way, we can drive you back up to the top of the Downs in the morning.

There are many attractions in the area within easy driving distance. The South Downs, with many walks and beautiful views, is directly opposite the house. The South Downs is an International Dark Sky Reserve and Bignor Hill is one of the darkest parts. The old market town of Petworth is 6 miles away and has remained largely unchanged, and is well known for Petworth House, now owned by the National Trust. Arundel is an ancient town on the river Arun, famous for its Cathedral and Castle, also about 6 miles away.

Within 25 minutes drive is the pebble-beach coastline of Climping, bordered only by fields. At a similar distance is the famous Goodwood Racecource and racing circuit, which hosts the annual Festival of Speed and the Revival Meeting.
Just a little further is the cathedral city of Chichester, and beyond Chichester are the famous sandy beaches of the Witterings.
